 Dear Joe,

 You made it!

 We're so happy to have you in the family, although you and Doug are like teenagers - sneaking off to have your bourbon and a cigar!

...and don't forget:  less drinking when you're grilling, or you could toss that cigar and set something on fire… "what's that smell?" BURNING VINYL SIDING, that's what!

 Thanks for cheerfully attending all of our things: cookie baking, cabin weekends (sans swim trunks), birthday celebrations...and for being a fun-loving, non-judgmental presence in our lives as well as a blessing to Karen.

  Dear Sir,  What can one say to a remarkable man on a remarkable birthday?  First of all, I am very glad that meeting my cara Sorella meant meeting you as well. You are generous with your time and affection and my kids and I appreciate it very much.  Second, I hope we get to see much more of you; I have wonderful memories of times spent together, from an evening of flooded streets in MN many years ago, Italian movies that I doubt any of us remembers, playing ball with two little kids in a restaurant so that Karen and I could talk, and other fun times that won't be mentioned to protect the innocent and the less innocent, but there are still more memories to make, more places to order mac and cheese, more hugs and laughs to be had.  And Third, Sir, enjoy your day in the company of people who love you dearly and for whom you mean so much. But please know that there are many more of us not in AZ with you, but still celebrating that you were born this fine...
